IFI Missions

Community-powered learning projects to advance capital, strategy, and impact.

What are IFI Missions?

Peer-Powered Projects

Missions are where members actively working on fit-for-purpose funding come together, for a set period, to work out how one piece of the system actually functions in practice. Each Mission turns what individuals have learned the hard way into tools and frameworks the whole field can use, so progress compounds instead of being reinvented in isolation.

Missions are explicitly designed to build. They're different to IFI Peer Groups, which bring members together for discussion, connection, and the organic exchange of ideas. Every Mission has a defined output: a framework, tool, model and/or training, designed to be shared with the broader IFI community or with specific geographic or sector communities. The goal is not just to learn together, but to produce something that advances collective action around fit-for-purpose capital.

Missions are intentionally small, application-based project groups bringing together practitioners, investors, and innovators around a shared inquiry in finance. Each mission group is carefully curated, to enable the blending of real-world experimentation with reflective learning. They are designed to challenge existing systems while co-creating new approaches that prioritise impact.

How Missions Work

Member-Led, Action-Oriented: Structured collaboration with real outputs.

Missions are curated by the IFI team through an application process to ensure a diversity of perspectives and experience as well as active participation. Mission teams meet regularly to test ideas, share insights, document learnings, and build toward a concrete output in order to bridge innovation and adoption across the field.

Together, Missions generate collective intelligence, prototype new approaches, and translate that work into practical tools that move the field forward.

What do we mean by ‘innovative finance’?

We believe innovative finance includes a wide array of approaches to managing capital and ultimately resourcing enterprises and interventions that create positive social and environmental outcomes.

Innovative Finance uses all the financial and philanthropic tools available. And when the right tool doesn’t exist, it builds new ones.

Want to dig deeper?

The Innovative Finance Initiative is a time-bound effort to support the work of reimagining how capital flows.

We are focused on learning, exploring and building together through connectivity events, collaborative learning and shared resources.

Whether you're new to this space or already experimenting, there’s room to learn more, ask questions and share what you’re working on.
